Feeding and pre-screening

Grizzly Feeder

Feed material to the primary crusher while separating fines through a grizzly section. The vibrating trough advances the main stream; smaller particles pass through the bar openings into a separate outlet.

Equipment structure

One trough. Two material paths.

The feeding section receives the material, the grizzly separates the fine fraction, and the support system isolates the moving trough. The drive and controls depend on the selected execution.

Motor and exciter

The direct-drive manual describes a flexible motor-to-exciter connection. A separate manual documents a belt-driven arrangement; these are different configurations.

Grizzly section

Bar openings let the finer fraction leave the main flow before the larger material reaches the crusher. Select the gap and fines outlet together.

Twin-shaft exciter

Gear-coupled eccentric shafts rotate in opposite directions to generate the trough motion described in the ZSW manuals.

Feed-rate adjustment

The documented direct-drive execution supports variable-frequency adjustment. The operating setting is selected for the material and required throughput.

Controls and interlocks

Start/stop control, overload protection and a PLC interface are described in the direct-drive manual. Confirm the control scope with the selected equipment.

Trough, wear parts and supports

The assembly includes the trough, grizzly bars, exciter and spring supports. Provide access for inspection, lubrication and replacement of wear parts.

Reference specifications

ZSW direct-drive execution

Values below are series references from the supplied ZSW direct-drive manual. Capacity varies with model and material density; these are not individual model ratings or values for the belt-drive execution.

Read the ZSW designation

The direct-drive manual lists these five designations. Its numeric suffix denotes effective trough length × width in centimetres; the dimensions below convert that notation to millimetres.

Model designationEffective length (mm)Effective width (mm)
ZSW380×953800950
ZSW420×11042001100
ZSW490×11049001100
ZSW600×13060001300
ZSW600×15060001500

These are designation-based trough dimensions, not installation or overall dimensions. The manual does not give individual capacity or motor power for each model. Confirm the selected model drawing and duty-specific ratings before ordering.

Applications

Where Grizzly Feeders Are Used

For ore, aggregates, coal and cement materials where feeding and fines separation are both needed. The direct-drive manual describes dry lump and granular materials. Wet, sticky or frozen feed requires a separate application review.

How It Works

Feed, Move and Pre-Screen

01

Generate trough motion

The motor drives the exciter. Its paired eccentric shafts generate the motion that advances material along the trough.

02

Move Material Forward

Bulk material advances along the vibrating trough toward the discharge and grizzly area.

03

Separate the finer fraction

Material passing through the grizzly openings needs its own discharge path; the oversize stream continues to downstream equipment.

Selection Guide

Three things to establish before selection

Material and throughput

Material type, bulk density, moisture, largest lump and normal/peak feed rate.

Grizzly separation

Required separation size, fines content, bar opening and the destination of each material stream.

Installation and controls

Hopper opening and feed drop, crusher interface, support layout, power supply and control interlocks.

Plan for inspection and access

Keep access to the grizzly bars, exciter, motor connection and spring supports. Inspection and maintenance must follow the manual for the delivered configuration.

Grizzly and trough

Inspect blockage, wear and the separate fines discharge path.

Exciter and drive

Provide access to lubrication points and the motor coupling or belt assembly applicable to the execution.

Supports and interfaces

Check spring condition, fasteners and clearances to fixed structures.

FAQ

Grizzly Feeder Questions

Where does the separated fine material go?

It leaves through the grizzly openings and needs a dedicated chute or conveyor. Agree its destination and the oversize discharge together with the crusher layout.

Are the direct-drive and belt-drive versions interchangeable?

The supplied manuals describe separate arrangements. Do not transfer ratings, motor sizing or mounting details between them; use the drawing and datasheet for the selected execution.

Can the feeding rate be adjusted?

The direct-drive manual includes variable-frequency adjustment. Confirm the permitted operating range and the crusher/conveyor interlocks for the selected configuration.
